MARISSA NELSON
Community-Driven Multimedia Reporter
As a reporter, I seek to connect people and their stories with broader social and political conversations — from sexual harassment on public transportation to the realities of lead in Chicago’s drinking water. I aim to find new ways of using old tools to find, tell and share these stories — from newsletters and Facebook groups to online surveys, paper flyers and events.
I completed a combined degree program at DePaul University, earning bachelor degrees in journalism and public relations, and a master’s in journalism. I was the Editor-in-Chief of 14 East, DePaul’s online magazine, and the graduate assistant for DePaul's Center for Journalism Integrity & Excellence.
I’m currently a Minow Fellow at WTTW. I produce for ‘Chicago Tonight,’ putting together panel discussions, field producing and reporting packages. I’m also leading a source audit initiative for WTTW News, developing a baseline understanding of where our newsroom stands in terms of diversity, equity and inclusion within our sourcing.
